We have a double kitchen sink with a garbage disposal. My wife put some leftover turkey down the disposal and now it is stopped up. I have removed the drain and trap back to the wall and I ran a 20' snake twice the full length, and after reassembling, it is still stopped up. Is it recommended to run a longer snake from the roof down the vent pipe that goes straight down to the basement?
It sounds to me like the stoppages are farther away than 20 feet but not in the mainline. You can get a snake that goes 75 feet and run it through the kitchen line. There is no need to go on the roof as long as you know for sure that your cable is going down and not up the vent stack. Because you have the pipes taken apart all the way to the wall, most likely your cable is going down instead of up; your cable is simply not long enough. For additional assistance with this problem, please contact a professional plumbing contractor, such as the ARS/Rescue Rooter branch in Columbus, OH at (614) 464-1111.
