• What is the deal with duct cleaning?

    Oct.2.2008

I have heard that you should vacuum your ducts to improve both the HVAC system performance and the air quality in your home. What is your opinion, and do you provide this service?

On average, a residential duct cleaning is recommended every 5 to 7 years.  This can vary depending on several factors in and around the home including the number of persons in and out of the home, pets, type of filters being used in the A/C system, carpet/tile and so on.  During an actual duct cleaning - besides using a HEPA VAC machine designed specifically for duct cleaning - a professional should pull and clean the blower assembly and clean the evaporator coil.  Use of an anti-microbial fog treatment afterward will sanitize germs, bacteria and fungus. The fog treatment lasts for about 6 months before it should be repeated.

With a professional duct cleaning and continual maintenance, you can improve the quality of the air in your home tremendously and if you have people in your home with allergies and/or asthma you can most likely expect to see a decrease in their breathing problems.

Just keep in mind that the air quality in most homes is more polluted than the air we breathe outdoors, and ARS/Rescue Rooter can provide this service whenever you need it.
