• What to replace first on my old furnace?

    Nov.24.2009

My furnace will not fire. I can hear the igniter clicking when the thermostat is turned up, but nothing happens. The gas lines are open, and our gas range works, but there is no gas smell at the furnace. Our furnace is older, and I need to know which parts I need to start replacing first to save myself some money.

Possible reasons the furnace will not fire include: a clogged pilot light orifice, gas not getting to the igniter, or the gas valve is either in the off position or bad altogether. I would not attempt any type of gas repairs. I suggest you contact a professional HVAC contractor, such as ARS/Rescue Rooter of Austin, TX at (512) 444-4ARS. Any repairs you make to your existing furnace will not improve its efficiency. Ask the tech about options for more efficient equipment that will work best for your situation, and don’t forget to inquire about rebates and tax credits as well.
