My auxiliary heat comes on all the time and the heat pump does not come on at all. Can you tell me what my problem might be?
Your auxiliary heat may be coming on instead of your heat pump for one of several different reasons. The unit could have lost its refrigerant charge, the contactor could be bad or the thermostat wire could be broken, just to name a few. I would recommend you start by checking the breaker in the electrical panel, make sure it is in the on position (usually to the left). If the break is tripped it will be in the middle position or could say “tripped”. Either way I think it would be a good idea to have your heating unit checked by an experienced technician, as any of the problems listed above would need to be repaired by an HVAC technician. We do have a service center located in the Raleigh area and their phone number is (919) 828-7746 if you would like to try ARS/Rescue Rooter.
