I have a window AC unit which is about two years old. It was working fine until recently. Now when I set the thermostat to a certain temperature, all of a sudden it will become freezing cold in the room no matter at what temperature I set the thermostat. If I turn off the unit, the compressor still runs. I have to actually unplug it to reset it and then sometimes that doesn't even work. Any ideas? Thanks!
It sounds to me like the thermostat on your window AC unit is sticking. This holds the compressor on even after the room has been cooled sufficiently to hold the temperature at which you set the thermostat. Unfortunately, there is no action you can take to remedy this problem. I suggest you contact a reputable HVAC contractor, like the ARS/Rescue Rooter branch in Houston, TX at (713/281/832) 777-7777 to schedule an appointment for a professional evaluation.
